On Tuesday, Malacañang expressed hope for an impartial impeachment trial for Vice President Sara Duterte, amidst rising public concerns over recent shifts in Senate leadership. The Palace emphasized the importance of fairness in the proceedings, as the Senate takes on the responsibility of handling the case.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted that the impeachment process has now transitioned to the hands of the Senate. She reassured that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is maintaining a stance of non-interference in the matter, respecting the separation of powers in the government.
“We trust that if the case reaches the Senate, our senators will act as fair judges, considering the interests of the people,” Castro stated during a press briefing. Her comments underscored the expectation that the Senate would conduct a balanced and just trial.
Castro further noted the role of the House of Representatives, which has concluded its part in the impeachment process. She clarified that this action is within the legislative branch’s purview and does not involve the President’s mandate, reinforcing the independence of the legislative processes.
