Việt Nam and Singapore are poised to enhance their political trust and expand strategic collaboration as the two nations focus on advancing cooperation in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. In anticipation of Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm’s state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that bilateral relations have transcended traditional economic interactions, increasingly prioritizing sectors aimed at supporting long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.

The relationship between the two countries was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, underscoring the growing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore remains a vital economic partner for Việt Nam, ranking as its second-largest foreign investor. The partnership includes thousands of active projects spanning manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A prominent example of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is evolving to incorporate greener and smarter industrial models aligned with sustainable development goals.

Both nations are also enhancing their collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to connect innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks across both countries. Economic collaboration is anticipated to remain a focal point during Tô Lâm’s visit, with an emphasis on deeper partnerships in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.

Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are expected to foster stronger ties between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in fields including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is also set to bolster the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam.

During his trip, Tô Lâm is slated to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, one of the region’s premier security forums. Vietnamese officials have described the invitation as a testament to Việt Nam’s growing international influence and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
