Following the resignation of Faishal Ibrahim, Singapore has appointed Zaqy Mohamad as the Acting Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs. Faishal’s departure from political office, Parliament, and the People’s Action Party on July 20 was due to a lapse in judgment concerning his interactions with a female member of the public, as stated by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Zaqy, in his recent discussions with reporters, emphasized his intention to collaborate closely with the M3+ network, along with volunteers and community partners. His focus is on enhancing programs designed to support and elevate Singapore’s Malay-Muslim community. “There is a lot of important work ahead of us, and we must continue building on the progress our community has made,” he noted, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring the community continues to receive dedicated support.
Expressing his sentiments on Faishal’s exit, Zaqy reflected on their long-standing professional relationship, which spanned approximately two decades.
