The Unfriending of America: How the World is Aligning Without the US

The world appears to be “unfriending” America. A powerful new alignment of nations is taking shape without US involvement, as vividly demonstrated at the recent SCO summit. The bonhomie between the leaders of India, China, and Russia has been flagged in the US as a chilling sign of America’s growing isolation.
Political commentator Van Jones captured this sentiment, describing the meeting as a “historically big deal.” He argued that the image of this new power trio—Modi, Xi, and Putin—should alarm Americans because it represents a “new world order” where the US is no longer the indispensable nation.
This global realignment is being accelerated by Washington’s confrontational trade policies. The tariffs have served as a catalyst, uniting a diverse group of powerful countries in their opposition to American unilateralism. Their joint appearance was a clear statement that they are prepared to go it alone.
Jones warned that the US has been strategically outmaneuvered and is now “in a box.” He explained that the country finds itself on the “bad side of the triangle,” a precarious position where “it’s everybody against us.” This new reality, he concluded, is “not good for America.”
