A Florida-based specialist in digestion and nutrition has suggested that a few simple dietary swaps or additions can lead to a much healthier liver. The expert shared seven fruits and vegetables that are particularly effective at strengthening liver function.
One simple addition is apples with cinnamon. This combination is highly recommended as apples provide soluble pectin fiber and polyphenols. Cinnamon complements this with compounds studied for their ability to support insulin sensitivity and healthier lipid levels, both of which ease the burden on the liver.
Another easy-to-add item is beetroot. According to the doctor, beetroots are a powerhouse of nitrates (for blood flow) and betaine. Betaine is a key nutrient that specifically assists the liver in processing and moving fat out of its cells.
The list also includes several berries. Cranberries (or unsweetened juice) are great for the gut-liver axis due to their prebiotic polyphenols. Raspberries are loaded with fiber and anthocyanins, which help regulate blood sugar and fat processing.
Pomegranates are recommended for their anti-inflammatory properties. Watermelon with lime is suggested for boosting blood flow. Even a “healthy swap” for dessert, like strawberries with dark chocolate (70%+), is recommended for its blood-vessel-supporting flavanols.
