Singapore has stepped up police patrols in selected areas following the deadly shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, which left 16 people dead, including one of the attackers, and injured dozens more.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said security agencies are closely monitoring the threat environment and have enhanced patrols as a precautionary measure. Authorities stressed that security arrangements will continue to be adjusted based on developments.
Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour or items to the police immediately. MHA also encouraged individuals who suspect radicalisation or extremist activities to contact the Internal Security Department, warning that any form of support for terrorism will be dealt with firmly under Singapore law.
The police reiterated public safety guidance in the event of a terror attack, advising people to “Run, Hide, and Tell.” This includes moving away from danger as quickly as possible, hiding if escape is not feasible, and informing authorities when it is safe to do so through emergency channels or the SGSecure app.
The Sydney attack, described as Australia’s deadliest gun incident in decades, claimed the lives of several civilians, including a child and members of the Jewish community, heightening regional security concerns and prompting precautionary measures across neighbouring countries.
