Sheffield Wednesday staff were “emotional” and felt a mix of “insecurity” and “hope” after being told the club was entering administration. Manager Henrik Pedersen described the scene in the training-ground canteen as the administrators, Begbies Traynor, took control.
Staff and players have faced months of uncertainty, with wages going unpaid in five of the last seven months. Pedersen said staff were asking, “Do we get our salary now? What happens now?” However, he said the “general feeling” was one of looking “forward to the future together.”
The administration, filed by owner Dejphon Chansiri, comes with a 12-point penalty, dropping the Owls to -6 points. Chansiri’s exit was celebrated by fans, who blame his “financial mismanagement” for the $pounds{}$1 million tax debt and the club’s collapse.
Pedersen framed the day as a “fresh restart” and remains hopeful job losses can be avoided. Despite the 15-point gap to safety, he vowed to “keep fighting” for survival.
The Supporters Trust is now urging fans to end their boycotts. “The phase of resistance has achieved its goal,” the trust stated, calling for fans to return and provide the “stability and income” the club urgently needs.
