Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has begun his first official visit to Australia and New Zealand from October 6 to 11 to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations with both countries. The six-day trip aims to reaffirm strong bilateral ties and expand cooperation in key areas including trade, defence, innovation, and clean energy.
During his stay in Canberra, PM Wong will co-chair the 10th Singapore-Australia Leaders’ Meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, where both leaders will sign a joint declaration launching the upgraded Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP 2.0). This enhanced framework builds on the original CSP established in 2015, which has successfully delivered over 110 initiatives across various sectors such as defence, digital economy, and green technology.
In Auckland, PM Wong will meet New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to sign a joint statement launching the Singapore-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, elevating their partnership beyond the 2019 Enhanced Partnership agreement. This collaboration will focus on trade, defence, innovation, and sustainability.
PM Wong will also honor war memorials in Canberra and Auckland and engage with Singaporean communities abroad. He emphasized that Singapore and its partners share common strategic goals on free trade, security, and multilateral cooperation, highlighting ongoing discussions on supply chain resilience, artificial intelligence, and clean energy initiatives.
